OR How did the government ensure that the small farmers also benefit from the Green Revolution as the rich farmers?


Ans 29. The use of modern technology, extensive use of fertilisers, pesticides and High Yielding Variety (HYV) seeds which together resulted in Green Revolution, led to an impressive rise in food grain production. The agricultural productivity and average yield also increased considerably.

The other measures accompanying the Green Revolution such as the development of marketing system, abolition of intermediaries and subsidised credit for farm investment also led to an increase in the level of marketable surplus.

All these factors contributed to higher crop yield which enabled the government to procure sufficient foodgrains to build the buffer stock to be used in time of shortages due to scanty rainfall, delayed monsoon, drought and other natural calamities.


Ans. 30. A more socialistic orientation and public sector domination of the Indian economy were sought to be established by the Industrial Policy Resolution of 1956 which substantially expand the scope of the public sector by reserving the future development of 17 most important industries to the public sector.

The protection from import is done in the following two forms: 

Quota: It specifies the number of goods that can be imported. 

Tariff: It is a tax that is imposed on imported products. This tax makes imported products more costly and discourages their use.
